Army Iron Man campaign for Virginia

 

Army Iron Man honors the best two-way high school football player in Virginia recruiting territory

 

BECKLEY, WV - The U.S. Army Beckley, WV Recruiting Battalion is proud to announce the launch of the 4th Annual Army Iron Man, which honors the best two-way high school football players in the battalion’s Virginia recruiting territory.  Playing and excelling on both offense and defense, the Army Iron Man must demonstrate physical and emotional strength, as well as strength of character.  The Army Iron Man embodies the qualities of Army STRONG!

 

In 2010, Amherst County’s Devonte Brown won the Army Iron Man of the Year for Virginia.  Brown had 1,660 yards of total offense with 19 touchdowns while making 74 tackles on defense with a sack, an interception, three passes defended, a fumble recovered, and two forced fumbles for the 9-3 Lancers.

Monacan’s Logan Staib earned the 2nd Annual Army Iron Man of the Year after throwing for 1,290 yards with 11 touchdowns and rushing for 330 yards while making 66 tackles on defense. 

 

Hidden Valley’s Chad Earhart won the inaugural Army Iron Man for Virginia.  Earhart earned all-district and all-region honors for the Titans with 12 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns.  On defense, Earhart recorded 66 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, and recorded two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.  As Hidden Valley’s kicker, Earhart averaged 35.6 yards/punt while making 14-of-18 extra points and kicking 2-of-4 field goals.  Earhart earned the week nine Army Iron Man honor after scoring on a 52-yard touchdown reception, returning a kick-off for a 94-yard touchdown, and returning an interception for a 35-yard touchdown in Hidden Valley’s 38-21 win over Christiansburg.

 

“The Sports Flash” (TSF) Radio Network will accept nominations each week from high school football coaches, athletic directors, media members, and high school football fans.  Each week, high school football fans from throughout the battalion’s recruiting territory will have the opportunity to vote for the winner of the Army Iron Man of the Week.  At the end of the regular season, fans will vote for the Army Iron Man of the Year from among the weekly winners.
