Kent Island’s Matt Baxter voted Army Iron Man of the Year Army Iron Man honors Maryland’s best two-way high school football player
BALTIMORE, MD – The U.S. Army Baltimore Recruiting Battalion is proud to announce that Kent Island’s Matt Baxter is the Army Iron Man of the Year as the best two-way high school football player in Maryland. Baxter received 11,837 votes to beat out Paint Branch’s Bene’t Willis for the honor. Willis had 10,966 votes. Archbishop Spalding’s K.K. Smith finished third with 9,834 votes. Baxter had 763 yards of total offense with 10 touchdowns while making 40 tackles on defense with nine sacks, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble for Kent Island. Playing and excelling on both offense and defense, the Army Iron Man must demonstrate physical and emotional strength, as well as strength of character. The Army Iron Man embodies the qualities of Army STRONG. The Army Iron Man of the Year will receive a customized ring from Jostens, Inc.
