Manheim Township beats Coatesville

for Pennsylvania Passing League East title

Manheim Twp. to play Gateway in exhibition at Heinz Field on August 14  

HARRISBURG , PA Manheim Township earned the Pennsylvania Passing League East Division title with a 40-8 win over Coatesville in the championship game of the 16-team Northeastern Elite 7-on-7 at Susquehanna Township High School .  Manheim Township handed  Coatesville their only lost of the tournament in the championship game.  Manheim Township went 6-0 in earning a trip to Heinz Field to play PPL West Champion Gateway in an exhibition at halftime of the Steelers preseason opener on Saturday, August 14.  

Fifteen teams participated in the Pennsylvania Passing League East Division, including: Coatesville; Dallastown; Danville Area; Harrisburg; Loyalsock; Manheim Central; Manheim Township; Mechanicsburg; Milton Hershey; Northeastern; Red Land; Steelton-Highspire; Susquenita; Susquehanna Township; and William Penn (York).  Brockway had committed to play in the PPL East, but withdrew after an injury to the team’s starting quarterback during practice on Friday evening. 

Sixteen teams participated in the Gateway Gators 7-on-7 presented by the Pennsylvania Passing League at Gateway High School on June 6, including:  Baldwin; Bethel Park; Clairton; Friendly (MD); Gateway; Greensburg Central Catholic; Montour; Penn Hills; Perry Traditional Academy; Pine Richland; Pittsburgh Central Catholic; Richland; South Allegheny; South Fayette; Trinity Area; and Valley.  Gateway went 6-1 in winning the PPL West, losing only to South Fayette (12-7) in pool play.  In the single-elimination championship round, the Gators opened with a 12-7 win over Bethel Park , knocked off Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the quarter-finals (19-7), and shut out Montour (12-0) in the semi-finals.

The Pennsylvania Passing League is in its first season as a seven-on-seven passing league for high school student-athletes throughout the Keystone State .  In 2010, 31 teams participated n the inaugural PPL, with more than 600 student-athletes participating in the event.   

The 2010 Pennsylvania Passing League is part of the U.S. Army Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion’s 2010 Army STRONG Tour, which includes the Army Iron Man campaign, the Army Coach of the Year, the Army STRONG Wrestler of the Year, and the Army Rivalry Tour.
