Jake Lilly – Bluefield

Chase Long – Buckhannon-Upshur

 

Long is the state’s top-ranked wrestler at 189-pounds and went 3-0 during a quadrangular meet, recording two first-period pins and a major decision. E-mail your vote for Buckhannon-Upshur's Chase Long.

 

Devonte Pettitt – Meadow Bridge

 

Pettitt, the Coalfield Conference’s top-ranked 171-pound wrestler, is 28-1 so far this season. E-mail your vote for Meadow Bridge's Devonte Pettitt.

Markus Griffin – Grafton

Dereck Merritt – Lewis County

 

Merritt improve to 27-0 on the season as he won the 215-pound title at the Big 10 Wrestling Tournament. E-mail your vote for Lewis County's Dereck Merritt.

Ryan Hinerman – North Marion

Jacob Milam – Liberty

Chris Setliff – Shady Spring

Jessee Schiffbauer – University

Anthony Trout – Greenbrier West

BECKLEY , WV – The U.S. Army Beckley Recruiting Battalion is proud to announce the finalists for the inaugural Army STRONG Wrestler of the Year, honoring West Virginia ’s best high school wrestlers.  Fans can vote online at www.TheSportsFlash.com, starting on Monday, March 15, 2010 .  The voting will end at midnight on Sunday, March 28.  The winner will be announced on Monday, March 29.

18 February 2010 Tyler Cottrill - Braxton County Cottrill improved to 25-1 on the season, winning the 140-pound weight class at the Lower Kanawha Conference Tournament.
   

Jake Lilly - Bluefield

 

Lilly went 8-0 last week in winning the 180-pound title at the Coalfield Conference Tournament and the Poca Duals Championship.  For the season, Lilly is 35-1 in just his second season of wrestling.  Lilly will play football at Concord University.

     
25 February 2010 Ryan Hinerman - North Marion Hinerman won the 130-pound weight class at the Class AAA Region 2 tournament and will enter the state tournament with a 31-4 record.
   

Clayton Shaver - Braxton County

 

Shaver won the 171-pound weight class at the Class AA-A Region 2 tournament.  Shaver is 28-1 this season and won the Braxton County Tournament and the Clay Tournament.

   

Hunter Wood - East Fairmont

 

Wood won the 119-pound weight class at the Class AAA Region 2 Tournament and heads to the state tournament with a 31-2 record.

     
4 March 2010 Issac Morgan - Fairmont Senior Morgan won the 189-pound title at the Class AAA State Tournament, edging Spring Valley's Scott Stewart, 3-2, in the final.  Morgan finishes the season, 45-3.
   

Eli Poston - Grafton

 

Poston won the 285-pound title in the Class AA-A State Tournament, beating Berkeley Springs' Hobert Delph for the title.  Poston finished the season with a 32-7 record.

   

Tyler Tennant - North Marion

 

Tennant won the 135-pound title at the Class AAA State Tournament, pinning Nitro's Sam Dunbar in 1:42.  Tennant, a junior, finishes his state championship season with a 38-4 record.

Eli Poston of Grafton finished his junior season 32-7, winning the Class AA-A State Tournament at 285-pounds beating Berkeley Springs' Hobert Delph, 7-4 in the final.  It was only Delph's third loss of the season.  At the Class AA-A State Tournament, Poston recorded three falls in 0:47, 3:51, and 5:14.
